Your Dive Control Board
Scientific Diving

The Diving Control Board (DCB) at an AAUS Organization has the autonomous and absolute authority over the scientific diving program's operation. So what exactly are the DCB's roles and responsibilities? Let's dive in.

AAUS Lead Diver
Scientific Diving

Poor leadership can have devastating impacts on any operation, but excellent leadership can help a program flourish. This course aims to establish what a lead diver is and does. We will define common lead diver terminology, qualifications, and responsibilities. The goal is for divers within each dive program to have clear roles.

Despite the operational differences from one AAUS Organizational Member (OM) to the next, this course helps create a framework for DSOs to have a more comprehensive picture of a diver’s experience. This course gives context and provides a thorough interpretation of the AAUS manual.

The use of Nitrox (a mixture of breathing gas with reduced nitrogen and increased oxygen) can be very beneficial for scientific diving, allowing longer or more frequent dives to perform science at depth.

This training material provides you with the theoretical basis and practice using a variety of tools to make use of Nitrox effectively and safely.

DSO/DSP Orientation
Scientific Diving

This program is designed to provide an orientation for new Diving Safety Officers and for existing DSOs who would like more information and an update on particulars of running a Diving Safety Program at their respective institutions or organizations. This program is required for DSOs at new AAUS Organizational Members and DSOs participating in the AAUS Certification Program. The program is also open to non AAUS organizations/DSOs who would like more information about AAUS.

The mission of the National Accreditation Committee is to establish, uphold, and raise the highest scientific diving standards through self-evaluation and site visits. This course provides the necessary administrative and record-keeping framework for submitting required documentation to the Committee.
